This coffee comes from COMSA (Café Orgánico Marcala, S.A.), a cooperative founded in 2000 when 62 Honduran farmers joined together with a shared goal: transition their farms from conventional production to organic, sustainable coffee farming. Located in the Marcala region of Honduras, the cooperative has grown into one of the most respected coffee organizations in the country.
With support from the FUNDER Foundation, COMSA earned organic certification from Bio Latina in 2001, allowing members to access international markets and receive better prices for their coffee. In 2006, the cooperative also achieved Fair Trade certification, enabling farmers to invest back into their communities.
Fair Trade premiums are used to support a number of social initiatives including paying teachers’ salaries, purchasing school supplies, and building school kitchens as part of the Merienda Escolar program, which provides meals for local school children. By purchasing COMSA coffee, we help support these farmers and the positive impact they’re making in their community.
In the cup:
Roasted dark, this coffee develops a rich, comforting profile with notes of orange, milk chocolate, and honey, balanced by a smooth body and lingering sweetness.
A bold, satisfying cup that performs beautifully as drip coffee, French press, or espresso.
